The backlit LCD display continuously shows voltage, charging current, the used charge for topping up, error messages, and information about charging completion. The used-charge value can be used for an indicative capacity assessment after properly discharging the cell beforehand.
Charging of Li-ion cells uses the TC/CC/CV method: waking up lightly discharged cells, constant-current charging, and subsequent charging up to 4.2 V with decreasing current for gentle and correct termination of the charging cycle.
The charger has 2 charging bays for charging 1–2 cylindrical Li-ion cells. Power is supplied via micro USB; a micro USB cable is included, an adapter is not included. The recommended power supply is 2 A.
XTAR VC2 is a professional microprocessor charger for cylindrical 3.6/3.7 V Li-ion batteries. Thanks to two independent bays, it allows charging 1 or 2 cells at the same time and continuously displays important charging information on the backlit LCD.
The display provides information about the voltage of the charged batteries, charging current, the used charge for topping up, as well as any errors or charging completion. The displayed used-charge value can be used for indicative capacity measurement (after first discharging the cell to its normal cutoff level, often around 2.5 V). Note: the displayed charge is usually about 3–5% higher than the real capacity because charging is not 100% efficient.
Charging is performed using the TC/CC/CV method, which helps keep Li-ion cells in good condition:
Fully charged cells left in the charger naturally self-discharge; charging resumes once the voltage drops below 3.9 V. The charger also offers reactivation of deeply discharged cells (including 0 V) – however, some cells may have irreversible damage and reactivation may not be possible.
A micro USB cable is included. The power adapter is not included – for power you can use a regular USB charger (e.g., from a phone), a USB outlet, or a computer; the recommended source is 2 A (2000 mA).
