For Li-ion cells it uses a three-stage TC/CC/CV algorithm, which helps keep the cell in good condition and ends charging at the right time. For Ni-MH it uses 0ΔV and -ΔV detection.

The charger is powered from any USB charger (2 A recommended) and is equipped with protections: short-circuit, overheating and reverse polarity. Thanks to external power, during charging the cell temperature may increase by a maximum of approximately 15 °C (according to the manufacturer’s description).

XTAR is a renowned manufacturer of quality chargers and battery accessories. The MC4S model hides a fully processor-controlled charger in a small body with 4 separate slots, so you can charge 1 to 4 cells at the same time and each channel works independently. The charger is powered via USB (recommended 2 A source), which contributes to convenient use at home and on the go.

For Li-ion cells, the MC4S uses the professional TC/CC/CV algorithm and for Ni-MH the 0ΔV and -ΔV method. It supports a wide range of sizes (including AAA/AA and many cylindrical Li-ion formats). The charger can also reactivate deeply discharged cells, including cells with 0 V voltage, which many common chargers cannot handle.

TC/CC/CV charging process (Li-ion):

  • TC phase: cells below 2.8 V are “woken up” with lower current.
  • CC phase: after reaching 2.8 V it charges with constant current 0.5 A or 1 A (depending on the channel and power supply output).
  • CV phase: topping off with decreasing current up to 4.2 V; then the battery is fully charged.

The package includes a USB cable. Note: batteries with voltage 4.1 V and higher may be evaluated by the charger as charged; to top up to maximum, insert the battery into the charger before connecting power. When cells are left in the charger, natural self-discharge occurs and charging will start again after the voltage drops below 4.1 V.
